Handy tool to have
By Sal G.
This type of cut-out tool is very versatile. They are great for cutting all sorts of materials: wood, sheetrock, plaster, tile, etc.. This is the perfect tool for cutting plaster ceilings or walls. I bought the carbide bit for this job. It cuts smoothly with none of the vibration you get with a reciprocating saw that causes the plaster to crack and fall out in chunks.I like the fact that this tool uses DeWalt's XRP 14.4 volt batteries so you can mix and match with other DeWalt 14.4 volt tools. The XRP's are contractor grade batteries that have a much higher amp output than most standard batteries which gives them much longer run-time between charges. A big bonus here is that it comes with two batteries, so you can always have one charged up and ready to go!I have used Roto-Zip brand cut-out tools in the past: a 110 volt corded model, and a 12 volt cordless model. The DeWalt has as much power as the corded Roto-Zip, which is great for any cordless vs corded tool comparison. It's much heavier though, and more bulky at the battery end. Compared to the cordless Roto-Zip, it will do a lot more cutting on a single charge and it has a lot more power. Again, the DeWalt is heavier and bulkier than the Roto-Zip, but the difference is not as stark as with the corded model.Pro's: Plenty of power, great battery life, wide variety of bits available to cut many different materials, easy changing of bits. DeWalt tools last forever!Cons: It's noisy, but so are all of these cut-out tools. It's a little heavy for this type of tool and the design makes it bottom-heavy. You'll get a definite arm workout if your using this tool overhead!Overall, I love this tool as a cordless option. If I didn't need it to be cordless, there are corded options that might be a little more manageable and nimble to use. I'm happy with it, and I now have 2 more batteries to mix into my rotation with my other 14.4 volt DeWalt tools.

Great Value
By Philip A. Hayes
I purchased this tool because I needed new batteries for my cordless drill. The cut-out tool came with two batteries and a charger and cost considerably less than buying just two batteries. I haven't had an opportunity to use the tool yet, but it looks to be very well made, and will be a very useful addition to my toolbox.
