Superior Quality Safety Gas Can

I purchased this safety gas can along with a similar Justrite product Justrite 7250120 AccuFlow 5 Gallon, 11.75" OD x 17.50" H Galvanized Steel Type II Red Safety Can With 5/8" Flexible Spout to replace a 30 year old Blitz Jerry can. Having got both at the same time and having experience with both side-by-side, I can't help but compare them. I consider this Eagle can to be the better of the two, despite the higher price. I use these safety gas cans for emergency gas supply for my family's vehicles, for back-up gas supply when I go camping in the boonies, and for supplying home-based gas-powered tools. Based on my experience so far:Pros:* Leak proof - This can has not leaked vapors or liquid despite much sloshing around and handling. The safety venting device does work well to release pressure when the can has been left in the sun.* Construction - This can is made from heavy gauge galvanized steel and has proven to be tough, durable, and dent-resistant. One feature of its construction that I especially like: it is a two piece design, lacking the usual seam down the side found on three-piece can designs. While it does have a vent that is designed to release pressure, the design of the can makes it especially robust and more resistant to bursting. The fact that it has no side seam should also make it less likely to leak from an impact to the side. I think this makes the Eagle can superior to the construction of the Justrite can in terms of construction.* Nozzle - The nozzle for this can is removable, which is a great feature. When storing or transporting the can, having the nozzle removed vastly reduces the can's profile, saving space and making it easier to place items around it. The nozzle attaches with a fine thread heavy nut, with a captive rubber/neoprene gasket. The nozzle itself has limited flex but is heavy-duty. While larger than the nozzle found on the Justrite can, it should work just as well when filling a variety of gas tanks. While the removability of the nozzle can potentially make it more prone to being lost or misplaced, I think this feature makes it superior to that of the Justrite can, which attaches with screws through a flange and cork gasket. The high quality removable nozzle is probably my favorite feature of this can.* Ergonomics - The lever that opens the outlet valve on this can is a bit more awkward to use at first, compared to the Justrite can, it becomes more comfortable as the can empties and rotates up and forward. Also, the inlet/safety vent is located at the rear of the can, allowing the user to open it slightly as it is being poured. This allows for a faster flow as air replaces the draining fuel. By comparison, the Justrite can's inlet/safety vent is immediately above the spout, making it nearly impossible to reach while pouring but also increasing the likelihood of spills, being so close to the outlet.Cons:* Price - This can is significantly more expensive than the Justrite can, by about twenty bucks at the time of my purchase. Over time and with normal usage, I expect both to perform satisfactorily. Absent other considerations, the Justrite can has the edge here.* Bottom plate - When comparing the bottoms of both cans, I found the metal on the bottom of the Justrite can to be thicker than that of the Eagle can. The fact that the Justrite can's diameter is slightly smaller than the Eagle may account for some of the additional flex in the Eagle can's bottom plate, but discounting this, it is apparent: The metal on the bottom of the Justrite can is clearly thicker. While this isn't an area of high expected wear, I am puzzled that the metal on the bottom appears to be so much thinner than the sides on the Eagle can. There have been times when desert camping that I have put a gas can down on the rocks - and I've got dents in my old can to prove that this is a location that does see some wear. This is really my only complaint of an otherwise excellent can and does not approach the level of changing my opinion that this is not only the best can of this kind out there, but also a better value than the Justrite even when considering price. It should also be said that while the bottom seems thinner than the sides, it is still not thin in terms of being flimsy or weak.Other thoughts:The Eagle can is made in the USA, while the Justrite can is made in China. To some, this makes no difference and I expect both to have similar service life - despite the fact that I think the Eagle can is superior. All things considered, including price, other purchasers may find country of manufacture important, as this reviewer does.Other reviewers seem to have experienced dents on the top of the can. My can arrived in perfect condition, cleanly boxed.If you are looking for a high quality type II safety gas can, this one belongs in your garage. While there may be a price difference between this and other similar cans, I personally think this can offers the greater value on the basis of superior quality. Five stars.

Great Gas Can

I purchased this gas can because I was looking for a high quality metal gas can with the safety features not found on the cheaper plastic containers. I also wanted one that I could handle fairly well when full. This can has the safety features I was looking for in that it is self venting. When heat builds up around the can (in your garage, in the sun, etc.) and the gas expands, the self venting fill port will automatically open slightly and close after it relieves the pressure built up inside the can. (spring loaded) The can is excellent, however, I gave it a 4 star because when you fully fill the can, the fill/vent port will leak gas out when tilted over if the can is filled to the top. This is because the fill valve safety bar is brought back to open the fill line when filling a gas tank or equipment and opens the vent port automatically, all at the same time for safety. The first time I filled the can, I filled it to the top. You should not do this as this will cause the gas to run out the fill/vent port and all over you and anything below the can. Since then, I fill it up with about 4.5 gallons or less. It does come with a longer than normal fill line to help reduce tilt on the can. Overall, I would recommend this can to anyone. A little precaution to place about 4 to 4.5 gallons in lieu of a full 5 gallons and it's perfect for filling with the extended fill line and self venting port. If it's quality and safety you want, this is the can to buy. It's a little pricey, but well worth the comfort of knowing it's safe to store in the garage or shed.

I love this gas can. It is my new favorite. I am in the lawn business, so i use alot of gas cans. This one is by far the best. The nozzle angles as you need it. When you pull the valve to open it also opens the vent, so the gas pours very fast if you want it. There is no chugging for air like other gas cans, witch make it pour really slow if there is no vent. You will be happy with this purchase.
