Low Priced...and it Shows

Overall, this watch is decent for the price, but it's nothing to get elated about. The dial is not as vibrant a blue color as the online photo would have you believe - the color doesn't "pop" as much as I would have wanted (I guess I need to find out what lighting they used for the photo and only look at the watch in THAT lighting...). The bezel is nonfunctional since it doesn't actually rotate. The water resistance is only listed for 100 m. The crown does not screw down. The bracelet has a very unsubstantial and even "tinny" feel to it. It is not well finished. The clasp is secure, but still has a cheap feel to it. In comparison to this watch, the Invicta 8926 that I also own has a much better quality bracelet -- and it's in the same price level as this Seiko (a bit cheaper in fact). I also just purchased a Citizen Calibre 5700 for about $50 more than the Seiko, but I would say the quality difference is worlds apart and worth at least three times the $50 difference.On the positive side, I like the clear case back (even though the movement isn't very decorative). I also find the watch aesthetically pleasing from a design standpoint (not quality of materials).I've only had this watch for a few weeks, so I can't give a thorough review of its accuracy, but the 7s36 movement seems to be about as accurate as the Invicta movement - gaining anywhere from about 5 to 15 seconds a day.Bottomline: There are better watches out there than the Seiko SNZ315 for roughly the same or just a bit more money.

Good Value, but Know What You Are Buying

Surprised to see this watch around. I bought this watch 7 years ago in Japan.Value: This watch offers good value. But my price was around $70 in Japan. To me, $100+ would be so-so value.Automatic Movement: It is an automatic watch, so buyers should be aware of the limitations. It uses 7S36 movement. 7S26 & 7S36 are common and reliable movements used in many Seiko automatic watches, mainly sold in international market. You can find plenty of info on the web about 7S26/7S36. This movement cannot be handwind (you cannot turn the crown to wind the spring). And it cannot be hacked (the second hand cannot be stopped when you set the time).Accuracy: The downside of 7S26/7S36 is that they are not necessarily accurate right from the factory. I doubt they are adjusted at the factory. And at this price range, it is really not worth it to have it adjusted after you buy it. I believe Seiko just state the movement is around +/-30 seconds per day. My watch was around 20 sec fast per day. There were some variations during the year (probably due to temperature), but the movement never settled to anything closer than 15 sec fast per day. Accuracy is in the eye of the beholder. But you should be aware of the potential limitation on accuracy.Blue Dial: I personally find the blue dial beautiful. That is what drew me to the watch in the 1st place.Bezel: The bezel is just for show. It does not rotate. But real divers probably wouldn't be interested in this watch anyways.Size: The watch can be a bit small, again depending on your taste. The diameter of the watch is 37 mm, without the crown.

I bought this watch based on looks only and did not realize that it was an automatic (mechanical) movement. At the time, I had only worn quartz watches and was unfamiliar with mechanical movements. Now, 3 years later I can say it was a pleasant surprise. This watch uses Seiko's 7S36 movement, which has 23 jewels and is mechanically identical to the 21-jewel 7S26 found in many other Seiko watches. The extra two jewels do not have any function.While not as accurate as my old quartz watches, the SNZ315 has been extremely rugged and reliable. I have taken this watch skydiving, mountain climbing, skiing and diving in salt water and it has been rock solid. The stainless steel case has resisted the wear very well and the Hardlex crystal only shows a few scratches after all of my abuse. Finally, the hands and dial, which are coated in Seiko's Lumibrite, glow very brightly. The Lumibrite is almost as good as real tritium and still is as bright today as it was when new.The watch looks nice whether wearing a suit in the office or shorts on the weekend. The bracelet is made from folded (not solid) H-links, but does not feel too flimsy. The only thing it is missing is a rotating bezel, which I find very useful. I have never had the watch regulated and it has gained a steady 17 seconds per day since I took it out of the box. I understand this accuracy is about normal for the Seiko 7S26/36 movements.I am so impressed with this watch, and in particular the 7S36 movement, that I just purchased a new Seiko SKX007J diver watch, which uses the 7S26 movement, to give me the rotating bezel that I want and without losing all of the wonderful qualities of this SNZ315. If you're looking for a nice sport diver watch that suits all occasions and is tough, I recommend the SNZ315. It has served me well.
