5Addressing accuracy concerns...
By D. Morrison
I got my 205 this weekend, and after reading reviews here, I was concerned about the accuracy, especially when elevation is involved. To this end, I left my Cat Eye Mity 8 on the bike for the first ride so that I could compare the two. Before I actually used the Edge on the bike, I updated the software from the Garmin website. There are two updates you need to install - the GPS firmware, and the device firmware. The ride I went on was a 33 mile road loop, 5000ft to 6150ft, with a 6 mile, 3% average grade hill.Speed: I was worried that the speed of the GPS would lag, but it updated as fast as the Cat Eye, and was more precise, since the Cat Eye only shows speed in increments of 0.5 mph above 20 mph.Distance: The GPS recorded a distance of 33.32 miles, and the Cat Eye recorded 33.66 miles. I think that matching each other within 1/100 of a mile per mile is pretty amazing. On the open road (in NM roads can get pretty open), GPS accuracy was reported as 8ft to 10 ft - that's less than two bike lengths.Elevation: The elevation seemed more or less accurate, and the curve drawn in the software is very smooth. The percent grade seemed very accurate, and matched percent grade that I calculated using TOPO! elevation profiles.Calories burned: Without a heart rate monitor, I think this estimate is bunk. It's unclear if it uses percent grade in the estimate, and I have a hard time imagining that I burned 2000 calories on that 33 mile ride. On the other hand, it's a great excuse for a post ride burrito.Software: The software (on my Mac) is easy to use, and displays information in a useful manner. It is a one step operation to make a route into a course, and one more step to put the course on the GPS. When you "Do the Course" (Garmin's term), it shows you a map, a compass, your virtual riding partner, or an elevation profile. Note that there is no elevation profile when you are not "Doing a Course", but that seems OK to me - after all, you can look behind you to see what you just climbed up. You really want a profile to show you how close you are to a summit or flat, and that is only possible when the entire route is known ahead of time (i.e. a "course").Issues: There are some issues. Just like my old ETrex, the map never centers itself well on the screen. The Lap and Start/Stop buttons are sensative, so you need to be careful not to hit them if you do something like stretch over the stem while riding. The USB port cover is indeed a pain to get fitted correctly. The screen is harder to see, especially in dim light, than my Cat Eye is.Other Notes: The Edge 205 comes with two bike mounts, so don't order two extras for three bikes, like I did. Also, the water bottle that comes with the 205 is twist open to drink, so it's not a bike bottle. Sort of dumb, but then who buys this thing for the bottle?Bottom Line: I have no regrets about buying the Edge, and no regrets about getting the 205 rather than the 305. I'll be taking my Mity 8 off the bike tonight.

2A GPS that cannot tell you where you are!
By Michel4388
Starting with some positive comments, the unit itself (hardware) is nice, it's slightly larger (thicker) than a standard mobile phone and feels sturdy. The screen is clear (but small) and buttons feel nice and are well placed. The unit has the new SirfStarIII technology for increased sensitivity, e.g. under tree cover, and my limited experience until now is that the reception is indeed good.So not a bad unit, but it should be understood that this unit is set up as a trip computer, and not as a navigation unit (although it does have some navigation options). It has some nice options like racing a virtual partner, which are well documented on the Garmin web-page. What the web-page does not make very clear though is:- It cannot give you the current position!!!- It does not have WAAS/EGNOS for better location precision- It does not have the "Upcoming turn feature" that the Geko hasAs a trip computer it has the following limitations:- The speed it gives fluctuates significantly more than with a normal (simple) cycle computer with a wheel sensor.- The height fluctuates so much that the grade it gives is completely useless (note that the Edge 305 should be better as it has a barometric sensor as well). Also, the total ascent and descent will systematically be too high. In a test I left the Edge for two hours in the same place, and had it record every second. Minimum height was 51m, maximum height 84m, total ascent 215m, total descent 218m, and maximum speed 3.5km/h.The included Garmin training center software works okay, but is very limited:- You cannot combine tracks (to upload to the Edge e.g.).- You cannot compare more than two tracks.- It only exports data in Garmins own (and uncommon) .hst file formatAlso note that if you want to overlay your track onto a map, you will need other software. The user manual (printed out) isokay but also very limited. The Edge comes with a rechargeable battery that is not user exchangeable (tip: instead of using the car-charger, it may be possible to use a universal USB car charger and the supplied cable at a fraction of the cost. Note however that I have not yet tested this).I mainly bought this unit to map mountainbiking tracks in order to be able to combine the best trails into some nice routes, and then use the Edge to find the routes. Using some third party software, this is possible, but it should have been much easier. I assumed I would be able to use it together with a map while hiking, and was very (and unpleasantly) suprised to learn that I bought a GPS that cannot tell me where I am.I am still hoping that Garmin can do an update of the firmware (I am using version 2.30 now) such that the unit gives the current location (ideally with an option for different grids). Without this option, two stars is all it gets from me.

5Very cool, very useful, and very informative
By Andrew Kent
I was a bit dubious about swapping out my regular cyclocomputer, especially for the extra dollars. Could something like the Edge 205 really give me that much more than the distance, speed, and time information I usually acquired with my $30 computer? Well, after a few rides with the 205, I can say that I'm a fan. The thing went on in a jiffy, works like a charm, and gives me all sorts of information I didn't have before. Wonder why that hill is so tough? Well, dummy, it's 13% grade. Didn't know that before. Wonder how much of that ride was spent ascending? Oh, about 1/3. Didn't know that before. How much climbing did I do on that ride? Oh, about 2,500 feet. Didn't know that before. And all this from a ride I've done at least a dozen times, and one I consider to be a "throwaway" training ride. A very cool, useful, and informative device. Well done, Garmin.

5Worth every penny. But not for hobbyists
By T. Haines
I have been using a range of Olympus' "High Grade" lenses, including the 50mm Macro, the 14-54mm, 11-22mm, and the 12-60mm. Each of those lenses have been great. Some better than others in either sharpness or color reproduction. But I can't complain about any of them. I've always wondered how much better could Olympus' line of "Super High Grade" lenses possibly be. After a lot of research, some consideration for the focal range I need most, I finally took the dive and bought this lens.I just can't believe the quality of the shots I'm getting with this lens. Colors are noticeably richer, and sharpness is incredible. I would describe the difference between this lens and the regular "high grade" lenses as being as profound a boost in quality as I experienced when I went from the standard kit lenses to my first "High Grade" lens. Probably even more so. it's like I am shooting with two different cameras. I'm just blown away by the quality of my shots with this lens. Also I love the bokeh I get with this lens (bokeh=out of focus blur behind the subject you're focused on). Between the bokeh, 2.0 aperture and the focal range I'm finally able to get the types of shots that have been escaping me with my other lenses. Focal range is great; 35mm-100mm gives me a nice sweet spot where 35mm isn't too tight to be unusable in some indoor situations, and 100mm gets me close enough. For some types of indoor shooting I found my 50-200mm lense was too tight at the wide end, and while it was nice to get in tight at the long end I found I didn't need to be as close as 200mm got me on the long end. This lens solves problems such as that one. I also love that the aperture is fixed at 2.0. Now I can zoom in without having to worry about sacrificing f-stops.The lens weighs a ton. It's heavier than my 50-200mm Zuiko. It's also a little bigger. So don't expect to use this as your "walk around lens". Focus is pretty fast, and it also seems to focus fairly quickly in low-light situations. I won't say anything about distortion or abrasion because I haven't seen any so far. Enough said about that. The lens may seem pricey, but it's a pro-quality lens. You get what you pay for. It's not for the usual hobbyist, and not something you buy your kid for his birthday. If you want/need pro-quality results, this lens is a must-have. Great for portraiture and medium telephoto shooting. If you're what they call a serious/advanced hobbyist I would suggest you consider your needs and think about this lens. Maybe save up for a while and make it the next big purchase you make toward your photography. However if you're shooting with an evolt (e500, e510, etc) I suggest serious/advanced hobbyists upgrade to an E3 before spending money on this lens. You'll find an E3 does more for your all-around shooting than a pro-lens will. But that's up to you.If you're a pro looking for your next great lens, you've found it. Aside from the quality of the shots coming out of this lens it's also a great performer in terms of controlling CA (again, I've not seen any yet), focus and that oh-so-sweet fixed aperture. This lens is giving me better quality shots than I've seen from the Canon 5d and even the 40d.Anyway, I don't regret buying this lens at all. In fact I'm most excited about the results and potential of this lens than I've been with any of my past lens purchases. I'm really in love with it!I'm including a couple of images I took with the lens. You can see for yourself how great it is.

5Brilliant lens
By S. Rodionov
If you shooting portraiture and medium range telephoto things - this is lens to have. Granted, its bleeding expensive. Its heavy. But there isnt anything around that is as bright and sharp, made by any other manufacturer in any other system. Bokeh is nearly same as what you get with legendary Zuiko's 50mm fixed length lenses (including ZD one). Sharpness is top notch (almost too sharp sometime). It handles like extension of your arm, and its bright bright bright...

5Magnificent Glass!
By H. Banzon
This lens is ultra bright and fast! The images have a sharp focus and a creamy bokeh. I mounted this lens on my Olympus e1 and have never unmounted since. It is very heavy and expensive... but the resulting images should have you satisfied.

5Review of Olympus 18-180mm f/3.5-6.3 Zuiko Lens for E Series DSLR Cameras
By C. Bloomquist
The 18 - 180 mm Zuiko lens appears to work better than the two lenses that came with the E-510 Olympus camera when I purchased it. The pictures appear consistently significantly sharper (better focus?) than most photos I've taken with the other lenses. I've had no problems with brightness working at the zoom / wide angle extremes (18 mm & 180 mm) as I think I read in one or two of the other reviews. I doubt I will use the original two lenses that came with the camera much anymore (if at all) because this lens adequately covers their combined zoom ranges (14 mm to 150 mm) -- at least for my use. This lens is a bit on the heavy side, however, compared to my old Rollei 120 tlr, it is still light.

4Falls a bit short of my expectations
By MKB
I bought the 2-lens e-500 camera kit well over a year ago, but felt the 40-150mm lens that came with it was not as sharp as it could be. Because I am trying to build a photography business, I decided recently to replace the 40-150 lens I had. I chose the Zuiko 18-180 for its zoom range; I felt it could pretty much take the place of both of the lenses that came with the e-500, and I wouldn't need to be switching lenses all the time. For that, this lens is perfect. It is also wonderful for macro photography; but for extreme closeups you will need a closeup filter set or dedicated macro lens (the filters work GREAT!).I use a monopod or tripod for most of my shots, but I still don't think I'm getting the sharpness I should be for a lens of this price. So I'm not completely happy with it. I recently ordered an e-520 to replace the 500, but don't have it yet. Maybe that will make a difference, but I've read that it's the lens that makes a great photo, not the camera.

4Good product for certain uses
By GameMaker
I bought this product mainly because I enjoy working out in the garden or kicking back out on the patio, and want to listen to XM out there. Previously I was using a radio and having my Delphi XM2GO broadcast over FM. For me, these speakers offer a very nice solution. The speakers actually come with new dock, a new AC converter, and a new antenna, so you can keep your other set, set up somewhere else. When using this setup, it has the advantage of also keeping your unit charged. The sound is decent, but I won't over hype it. You get the sort of sound quality that you might expect from a nice radio of about the same size. Same with the power of it. Don't expect to be breaking any glass by turning this thing up to ear-drum splitting levels. It aint gonna happen. If you want more of a hi-fi experience, definitely use the audio cables and plug it into a home stereo system. The one big drawback to the system, like someone else mentioned, is that you can't power the darn speakers via battery. Which means that its a whole lot less mobile then it could be.

5very nice
By XM RADIO FAN
I purchased this item since old time radio {CH 164} on XM is not available on line. It works very well for the purpose of listening to voice or music. with adjustmens of bass and voume sound is very nice for use as an alternate listening device to a stereo reciever. Do not expect room filling thundering sound but it is very good audio. More like a high end table radio. easy to use. attractive . This review applies only to the DELPHI xmtogo model reciever hook up. It will work with Pioneer or Tao model as well.
