good product, great price

These pads are the same as the dukal 645 abd pads. Good absorbency for badly draining wounds. These are a very good price by the case and were sent promptly.

Thin pads, poorly packaged

The pads themselves look like very thin, extra-wide 'panty liners', but without the sticky adhesive backing. They also came in a different box than what is shown on the listing here (as of 12-17-12).I was a bit disappointed when I received it (I only ordered one box to sample it before ordering a large quantity); despite having been in a padded envelope, the box that holds the pads (which was an open-topped box) was totally crushed and some of the pads had come out of the box. Apparently, the seller (HYE QUALITY MEDICAL SUPPLY) just put the open box inside the plastic bag, affixed the shipping label, and off it went. Fortunately the pads themselves are individually wrapped in an outer paper that maintains their sterility, and although the box was smashed, the pads themselves (and their sterile outer paper packaging) seemed to be okay.Considering what I was charged for shipping ($6.99), they probably should have put it in a cardboard outer container instead of the plastic envelope. I do know they make money on shipping, as it cost them less than $3.50 to ship this particular item... so yes, I would expect they should have taken better care in shipping/packaging... or else make the shipping free. But that is a review more of the seller than the product, so I did not discount for that in my review... rather, it is an FYI to the seller to take better precautions and use hardier packing/packaging materials (like a firmer outer shipping container). On the "pro" side though, the seller did ship promptly.There is a blue line on the outside of the pad which helps you determine which side is supposed to go against the wound. However, other than having a folded "hem" on the blue-lined outside, I don't see that it would matter which side is used since the pad and outside liner are made of the same material on both sides.I knocked off one star for the following reasons:1. The *actual* size (length x width) of the PAD is 5x7 (not 5x9 as advertised); the other 2" is made up of material that encloses and overlays the actual pad (there is about a 1" piece of extra material at each end of the pad). I believe this is the "wicking" material that helps keep the pad draining and not clogging. Had I known this was the actual size, I may have order the next size up because I did need/want a larger size.2. The thickness of the pad is also disappointing. At just under 1/8" thick, I was expecting a much thicker pad (the dimensions listed on the carton in the photo showed the length and width, but not the thickness; they just looked thicker in the photo). And while it is thin, to test it I did put an 1/8 cup of water on the pad and it absorbed almost all of it without seeping out (laid out flat on my countertop).Basically, what I see this pad would have going for it mostly is the fact that it is made up of a wicking-type outer layer. Which means that when it is applied to a wound, the inside pad would absorb the liquid (blood, ooze, etc.) without the outside layer necessarily sticking to the wound and/or clogging. It would make changing dressings much easier and less painful than a regular non-wicking bandage (i.e., the standard gauze-type dressings). These benefits - wicking, draining, and capacity - are the reasons I didn't knock of two stars... what they offer make up for what they lack in size.Based on the above, while I did not get the product I expected, I believe this would do for a large-area wound... at least on a temporary basis. I wouldn't expect it to last very long for a deep wound or one that is "gushing" (pad would get saturated too quickly thus rendering it useless), but rather to cover a large abrasion or to keep a large area clean. I could also see this being used as a covering for, say, a large tattoo or a rash... to keep it clean and draining, as well as the ease and painless manner in which it can be changed.PRODUCT: I would buy these again, but (for me) the larger pads.SELLER: I would ask the seller to ensure the packaging was better.
