Warm rice all the time

I have owned this type of Rice Cooker for more than 2 years. It is a little pricey compared to other rice cookers, but from my experience, it is worth it. This rice cooker cooks rice quickly (15 minutes or so) and it keep the rice warm until you are ready to eat. I had my rice stay on "warm" one time for two days without the rice turning brown and the bottom getting hard and burnt. We always have our rice cooker on "warm" so that we can have rice available 24/7. We eat rice for lunch and dinner and sometimes for breakfast too, so I always cook rice in the morning and it will last us until dinner. If we have left over rice for dinner, it will still stay warm and fluffy the next day.I have tried several cheaper rice cookers sold in Target, they do a good job in cooking rice, but they dont keep it warm and soft... after a few hours of being on "warm" the rice turns brown and hard. These cheap rice cookers are only good for occasional rice eaters and for those who can finish their rice in one seating.I was told also that Rice cookers made in Japan last longer than the ones made in China. There are similar "Tiger rice cookers" made in China but are sold at a much lower price ($50+-). According to friends, these doesn't last long especially if you plan to use your rice cooker everyday. So be sure to get a "Made in Japan" model.

Best Rice Cooker - Dependable - Great for the Money

Got Rice? Our family eats rice every day (2-3 times) and our last Tiger 10 cup rice cooker was a Christmas present from my parents over 10 years ago. When the non-stick got too worn out, I decided to buy a Panasonic based on decent user reviews. Well, the quality of rice that came out was not up to TIGER standard. With TIGER, you have fluffy rice that kept well for hours, not crusty/hard/crunchy. Well, after seeing this on sale, I had to buy it. Trust a life time rice eater. This is the best rice cooker for around $100 (or more) that you can buy.

Rice the way it was meant to be eaten...

I have owned this cooker for almost 17 years, yes, only one of them. And though the lid doesn't always close tightly any more, it still makes incredible rice. International friends who come to my house are always surprised, and pleased, to see the cooker. They know they will get to eat good rice. I have eaten what comes out of cheaper cookers. Buy a good one, and this is a good one. We use it one to two times a week and it has been a workhorse, 3 servings, 10 servings, it does them all. It keeps the rice warm for hours. A great investment.

15 years and still going!

I'm always amazed to see this product still being sold at local Chinese supermarkets and here on Amazon. I've used mine for over 15 years now and quite regularly in the past 5 years. I don't see the non-stick stuff coming off the cook bowl but over time, there will be some small particles of rice stuck on quite permanently. I don't scrub because it is a non-stick surface. I've seen this happen with other rice cookers so I'm not sure you can get around this by just purchasing another brand. You're probably better off buying a softer wood paddle for cheap available at most Chinese/Japanese markets. My dad just sanded off the rough edges of the plastic paddle that came with my cooker. I haven't replaced my rice bowl yet as it still releases rice just fine. Unfortunately, the price is also unmoved after all these years.Btw, I see inexperienced friends buying large (e.g. 10 cup) rice cookers. This is generally not a wise idea if you're only cooking for 1 or 2 people most of the time since the larger the cooker, the larger the minimum amount of rice to be cooked.As a final note, I'm not aware of any heating element on the top of the cooker. The cooker is nicely sealed and does white rice well. Like many other cookers, it will also do brown rice well, except that the additional water requirements will result in an excessive amount of muddy brown splatter around the outside of the steam vent. It will automatically switch to a warming mode but unfortunately it does not have an auto shut off. Note that although you can warm for quite a while, the rice will eventually dry out and faster still if you are only cooking a small amount.

16 years of hard use and still working great!

I never write reviews but this rice cooker is the most reliable piece of electronics I have ever owned. My parents gave it to me as a gift when I went to college in 1994, it survived undergrad, Peace Corps (yes, I love it so much it went to Honduras with me), then grad school, multiple moves, marriage and now parenthood. I rec'd a larger one as a wedding present but I still use my tried and true. It has always been reliable and cooks all types of rice perfectly. The only problem I have with it now is that the non-stick coating is a little scratched at the bottom (my fault - wasn't always careful with not using metal utensils) so I'm looking to replace the inner pot. Don't hesitate - this is a great buy and the four cup capacity has been more than enough for two adults and a baby even with seconds.

Served us well for more than 12 years

I purchased this rice cooker on advice of the nursing staff at the hospital where I was on staff. The Asian ladies kept a huge rice cooker going 24/7, and many a day, when Labor & Delivery got really busy, that was all we got a chance to eat. Rice with some soy sauce kept us going.Having been raised in Louisiana and eating rice almost everyday, I was amazed at how this rice cooker kept rice warm & ready to eat all the time, without the hassle of cooking in a pot. I decided then & there to get one for myself, and the nurses suggested Tiger brand as the most reliable. At that time they were hard to find in regular stores, so off I went to an Asian store & bought one.I have never been so happy with a small appliance! Even my husband, who had to learn from me how to cook a reasonable pot of rice, now can cook rice to perfection.Nothing has gone wrong with this cooker in all these years, but I will be upgrading to a slightly larger one, as I need more than a 4-cup cooker when there is company to feed.Oh yes--it is also very easy to clean, and I am almost obsessive about kitchen cleanliness.Another thing that I learned with this cooker is if I have leftover rice in the refrigerator or even freezer, it is so easy to warm it right up in the cooker. I just dump it in, add a small amount of water & turm it to cook--so there's no watching, no stuck-to-the-pot rice, and no mushy rice from overcooking.The only problem is that now I need a new non-stick insert, as mine is slightly scratched where people used regular spoons to dish up the rice. These I have only found at [...], they cost $59 and are out of stock at present. But my rice still doesn't stick to the pot & it is still easy to clean.When I do purchase my next rice cooker / warmer, it will be a Tiger. Why should I experiment, when this has worked so well for me for so many years? This current rice cooker will retire to AZ to winter with my husband when I get a new one. I only hope the newer models hold up as well as mine has.

Best replacement shroud - original should be this good!

Construction material much better than original Coleman shroud. Better protection in rear from branches, etc. Easy to install. Probably more aerodynmamic but what do I know, it's a motor-home for goodness sake! Glad I did the job before the other one self-destructed on the road - those old A/C and fridge shrouds along with various awning parts are the most spotted items along the interstates that blow off RVs! Get one before you join the club!

A great starter set for the price.

The Bachmann Thunder Valley train set makes a nice entry-level set for anyone looking at getting into N-scale model railroading. Keep in mind that N-scale is approximately 1:160 scale, so this train is SMALL. That makes it ideal for people with limited space, but less appropriate for the very young.I purchased a few Bachmann sets to get a small stable of trains for the layout I'm building, and this one, while cheapest, is also my favorite. The engine is strong, and not as tempermental as some of the steam locomotive models from Bachmann. It can easily handle a 4% grade with a full consist, and runs smoothly.This set only comes with a circle of EZ Track, so you'll be needing more. I initially wasn't thrilled with the idea of EZ Track (which has the trackbed permanently attached) but it actually works very nicely, and is far superior for use as a temporary tabletop or floor setup than traditional track would be.The electrical components of the set are also solid, if somewhat simplistic.This is a solid set for anyone getting started with N-Scale model railroading, and given the price, it would be hard to beat.

Just What He Wanted

My eleven yr old nephew was thrilled to get what he wanted-a train! He was able to quickly assemble the train to Mom's pleasant surprise. He does state that the train will stop 1/10 of the time for unknown reasons. It must be noted that the Bachmann Trains Thunder Valley Ready-to-Run N Scale Train Set is still highly valued a month after he rec'd it for his Christmas gift.

Tiger makes the best rice cookers. I've gone through a few rice cookers and they were all pretty terrible with either quality of the product itself or the cooked rice. Tiger is perfect, I'll never purchase any other brand again.

Loving it!

I purchased this cooker a month back. It makes rice excellently. I have been using it everyday to make brown rice. The measurement I use for Brown rice is 1 : 2.5 (Rice to water ratio). The Brown rice is cooked so well and soft. Moreover the cooked rice does not stick to the bottom. The cooker does not spew out steam. The container inside is easy to wash.Overall a great product for anyone who cooks rice at home everyday. Works great for a family of 2-4.

Best rice cooker I've ever had!

I upgraded to the Tiger after getting a recommendation from a Cambodian friend who uses these rice cookers. I had complained that my previous rice cooker overcooked the rice on the bottom every time. After a few weeks of using this Tiger cooker, I'm in move and have listed my old cooker on eBay. This Tiger rice cooker never EVER overcooks rice, even when the Keep Warm feature is used for an entire day. The rice is always perfect, and even after microwave reheating, it's better than the rice out of my old one. The instructions are easy to follow, the cooker is fast (rice in about half an hour), and it's easy to clean. What else could you ask for? You don't even need a timer, because the rice will be great at dinnertime even if you start it when you're leaving for work in the morning.
