5Prowl Returns
By Herschel Greenberg
Please note, this review is for the Binaltech Blue Prowl, which is also an Acura RSX, but it is not the police car that was released in America. Binaltech Transformers are also made of metal, with metal joints. In addition, despite what anyone says, the Binaltech and Alternator Transformers are really designed for adults who remember their original Transformers and those who like to collect cars that resemble their real world counterparts.Anyway, the good news is, Binaltech and Alternators transform the same way. Of all the Alternators in my collection (Viper, Mustang, Subaru), this Acura is the most fun to transform. Prowl looks fantastic in vehicle mode. The molding is extremely close to the RSX, and the break-points for transformation are well blended. From afar, someone would have a hard time identifying this as a Transformer. The transformation to robot mode is great. Everything is intuitive-that is, you can transform back and forth easily after looking at the directions only once. This one is actually fun! I say this in comparison to the Mustang, Wheeljack. This must be the most frustrating Alternator out there and the most difficult. Prowl's transformation is much smoother and you will find yourself doing so often! As a robot, he looks good too. He has a night stick (mine is red) that can also attach to his leg to make it look like he is carrying a baton. He also comes with a gun that is also his engine (I think they all have this) which, in my version, looks ok. His legs and arms have multiple joints which allow many different poses. His head looks like an old-school transformer.Overall, I am impressed with this Alternator. I have transformed him numerous times (as I sit at my computer waiting for a game to load or something) and I like the way he works the best. I will always recommend the Binaltech Transformers simply because they are better made and will last longer. But they are also more money. Prowl is a great Transformer that you should add to your collection.

5Officer Prowl Joins the Alt crew.

Transformers Alternators Prowl uses an Acura RSX sport coupe to remind us of the Datsun 280 ZX Police car his counterpart once was. However, that's where the similarities between this updated toy and the old one end. This version of Prowl uses an all-new transformation scheme than his predecessor. I never got one of these when I was a kid. I'm glad to have one now.Prowl's vehicle mode and transformation actually remind us of another Autobot, Red Alert. (Prays for a release of a repaint in those colors with a Sideswipe head on it) However, the paint applications on this car clearly are Prowl's. From the Highway patrol decals the police lightbar, and the Autobot symbol on the hood, this is classic Prowl. The Autobot cop even has a nightstick this time in addition to his engine gun!Prowl's transformation is about as easy as Windcharger or Hound but not as hard as Tracks, Meister or the kings of frustration Wheeljack/Grimlock. You should get it down after a couple of tries. The articulation on Alternators Prowl is excellent in the arms; his elbows and shoulders have a great range of motion. However car kibble in the hips, knees and thighs severely limit poseability below the waist. Thankfully, the ball ankles allow for some decent action poses.Prowl is a must have transformer for any Transformers fans' Alternators Collection. You have to get this one now!
