Great bang for the buck.

This is a great combo. It is actually a quality setup compared to many of the cheap total packages you'll find in stores. I've fished these Okuma Cascade reels for years and they are smooth, lightweight and bombproof. I bought my components separately but wish this combo was available then. I advised a friend to buy this who wanted to get into fly fishing and he loves it. This is actually an into setup that you won't throw away if you decide to get serious about fly fishing.As a negative, it is not a swanky name brand, doesn't have some beautiful metal finish on the reel, or exotic wooden reel seat, but if you're interested in fishing and not some kind of elitist fashion show, then this is an ideal way to go.

When I was looking for a flyrod and reel combo, I was not at all sure which one to pick! After a few days of looking at flyrods under $100, I finally decided to go with this one. Did I make the best choice? I guess I'll never know, but today I waded for hours in a local quarry and caught 25+ big bluegills and really gave this rod a good breaking in. If I were you, I'd order some new fly line and some tippets because the ones that are pre-spooled are pretty nice, but not the best. I am still using the line that came with the rod, but soon I will change it out. If you are interested in fly fishing but don't want to dish out big money for a fancy, brand-name rod, do yourself a favor and get this one. I'm eager to use it on the Little Manistee river in a week!UPDATE: This rod is still working great a month after receiving it. I've caught big bluegills, trout, and one giant 4lb bass on this rod and it's been great. This combo is awesome!

For beginners only

Pretty much like what you would get for a beginner combo. Casting with the rod feels kind clunky, not much accuracy there. Nothing fancy with the reel, but definitely functions OK. Fly line is not supple enough, and the nail knot between the fly line and leader badly tied(which is not a big deal since you will need to retie it anyway very soon). If you only want to try out fly fishing, it's good enough. If you want to get a bit serious get a better rod.
