5Radiant Barrier Insulation
By emg_00
I installed radiant barrier insulation in my attic and it dropped the attic temperature 30 to 40 degrees in the Texas heat. I can tell a significant difference inside my house as far as radiant heat. Before, I could feel the heat radiating inside, but now It is cooler. My electric bill dropped about $75.00 per month during the summer months. My house is not shaded. Anyone using radiant barrier in a shaded area would probably have lesser results because there would be less radiated heat.

5you can get it cheaper

Radient barrier works fine, easy to install , fast delivery by Home & Beyond however Home Depot sells this for $62. They were temporally out of stock and I needed it immediately.

5Really Reduces Heat Gain
By Kevin Turini
I installed this product in my detached garage. It works as advertised. I did use it on my house, yet. I wanted to try it on a smaller scale in my uninsulated garage that can become too oppressively hot in the summer for even going in there during the summer. After halfway through installation, I checked the temperature on the inside surfaces of the garage, and the product lowered the temperature by at least 10 degrees F on all surfaces compared.Pros:- Easy to cut with a utility knife (mine had a relatively new blade)- Reinforced with fiberglass to add strength. The foil is also strong. I did not tear at all during installation.- Really reduces heat gain to my uninsulated garage in Texas.Cons:- the edge of the roll can fray as it comes off the roll if you are not careful. At first I hung the roll on a piece of rope so I could unroll it like a roll of toilet paper. The edges of the foil would fray a little and some fiber strands would catch on my rope. I upgraded my hanging of the roll and added a 5' piece of PVC pipe with in the inside of the roll.I would recommend this product to people in the South who have significant heat gain for radiant energy.
