5Quality in sound, touch and look
By Roger L. Horvath
I've been looking at Privia digital pianos for a couple of months now...The lower end privia's were in the 450 to 600 dollar range but was holding out for more tones and recording capabiltiy. I happend upon this model the PX555, surfing Amazon, on sale with free shipping. The extra bells and whistles were a whole lot more than I had been looking for but at $660 I figured why not.The piano is much more substantial than i had thought it would be. The shipping weight was 79 pounds (this also included the wooden stand). It is a very attractive and solid built unit. The touch sensitive keys are true to a real piano feel and do take a bit of time to get used to (other Digital Pianos I've played in the past were not as sensiive to the touch). The sound is incredible and I can't express how blown away I am at the tones and rythnms that you can get out of this machine and the choices for configuration of tone/rythmns you can build. My only complaint is the vast options available require a whole lot of reading and fooling around to master. The record function works well but I'm not blown away with the Smart Media usage. I'm still working on saving my recordings to the card and retrieving it back later. I did however, quite easily, download some additional MIDI tunes from the internet and was able to transfer them with the card (this is much more convienient than having to plug in the keyboard to a computer via USB).All in all, I am very satisfied with the purchase and would recommend anyone in the market to hang on for a sales price or offer. You just can't beat the quality for the price.

5Casio wants to play with the big boys.
By Ross "The Boss"
For what this keyboard sets out to do, it's really quite amazing. I'm sure most musicians hear the word "Casio" and think toy keyboards, but they've taken a step up with their Privia line. I received the PX-555R (Or CS, depending on where you buy it) for my birthday and have been nothing but happy with it. Being a professional pianist, I love the feel of the weighted keys on this keyboard and it takes up so little space for an 88-key digital piano. I've actually managed to crank out quite a few recordings with this baby and have amazed many clients with some of the MIDI projects that I have created. While the sound banks may not match up to some of the higher end synths like the Trinity or Triton, there are still some great sounds to pull from here.I would not recommend this keyboard as a MIDI controller since it does slow down a little bit if there's too much information being relayed back and forth. Also, it's not a hugely configurable keyboard. You can save registrations within its banks, but forget about trying to modify the internal sounds. Also, if you use any kind of MIDI sequencing software, you'll have to do all your own mapping to ensure compatibility. I spent a couple of hours mapping it to Cakewalk Sonar so I could access some of the extra sound banks that are separate from General MIDI.For its price, decent sound banks, realistic touch, and wide variety of functions, I still keep this keyboard rated at a 5. I'm still saving up for one of the heavyweight keyboards, but this definitely is serving its function for me quite well.

5Excellent for a beginner
By ermy
I am a beginner and this thing rocks. I can plug it into my mac and mess around with Garageband or just use the great onboard sounds, drum beats, etc.Casio did a great job and made this model and the series as a whole affordable, IMO.The build quality seems top notch. It has survived 3 moves cross-country without being packed in a box and still looks great. It is heavy/sturdy.I'd buy it again if it were stolen.
