5Track LIsting KBCO VOL 5
By jonifan
Track Listing:1. Cowboy Junkies - "Black Eyed Man"Studio C went on the road! KBCO listeners enjoyed this performance live from Avalanche Studios in Northglenn. A small group of lucky fans witnessed the first live session broadcast from outside the KBCO studios.2. Moody Blues - "The Actors"Justin Hayward and John Lodge made a rare acoustic live appearance shortly before they presented the Colorado Symphony Orchestra a gold plaque commemorating the success of the concert video filmed at Red Rocks two years earlier. Nuff said! What a moment.3. Third Matinee - "Family Tree"The Cherry Creek Arts Festival brought them to Denver, but Studio C lured them to Boulder. The set up was so large that keyboardist Patrick Leonard had to use the percussion mic for his interview segment. What a great sound!4.Nanci Griffith - "The Flyer"Nanci Griffith flew into Studio C to perform the title track from her then unreleased new album, "The Flyer". A national radio conference in Boulder brought her here, and we were thrilled to have one of our favorites play live for Lois Todd's show.5. Boz Scaggs - "Sierra"Ira Gordon played host to this casual early morning session. In Boulder to promote his first album In many years. Boz seduced the morning commute with this song Inspired by the view of the Flatirons out the Audio window.6. Freddy Jones Band - "Take the Time"From the Windy City to the chilly slopes of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, this Chicago based group did some ice melting at the KBCO Cardboard Downhill Derby in February. They returned one month later for more of the same in Studio C. Hot!7. Sheryl Crow - "Strong Enough"KBCO had played host to this rising star before, and she let us have it again a few hours before she stepped out on the stage at the Paramount Theatre with the Crowded House tour. The next time Sheryl was in Denver, she would be the headliner.8. Jeffrey Gaines - "Nursery Rhymes"The guys had to rent instruments from Robb's Music to squeeze in a Saturday afternoon set hosted by Chuck Woodford. Fresh off the stage of the Fox Theatre the night before, Jeffrey blew us away with an incredible performance of this song from his brand new album.9. Paula Cole - "Happy Homes"This would be the first session ever taped for cable television, but the bright tights paled in the shadow of this powerful voice, Paula's local following had grown from the small stage at Caffe Mars to on appearance at the Fox Theatre the night prior to this incredible session. WOW!10. Keb Mo - "Every Morning"Bonnie Raitt turned us on to this young blues purist and we got o full dose lust moments before he hit the stage at the Fox Theatre to open for Koko Taylor. The audience that evening called him bock for 3 encores! We did the same.11. Storyville - "Bluest Eyes"The phone rang for hours after Milford Milligan's awesome band laid it out for all to hear the day of their Boulder debut. Put this guy in front of a band that includes the rhythm section from Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble and you are rocking. Crank it up!12. Toni Childs - "Woman's Boat"A great moment in Studio C history, Toni let her hair down and gave us this rare acoustic performance the afternoon before her sold out show at the Ogden Theatre. With Chuck Woodford as host, Toni and bond felt right at home. It comes through loud and clear.13. Timbuk 3 - "Bank Robber"Timbuk 3 had driven all night from Telluride to help us open the newly renovated Bluebird Theatre in Denver, but not without a stop in Studio C first. Pat asked us to mic his boot as he walked us through this hypnotic song from a yet to be released new album.14. Magic Dick & Jay Geils - Bluestime - "Nine Below Zero"After many years away from recording, Magic Dick and Jay Geils put the best blues musicians from Boston on a bus and returned to Boulder to show off their new project Bluetime. Scott Arbough had to run home to get his own amplifier to make the session happen, and it was hoppin' !!!!15. Milla - "Bang Your Head"Complete with her antique Russian instruments, Milla brought Oz to his feet with a chilling session that we all know he won't soon forget. This young performer and her band left Studio C just in time to make their Mercury Cafe debut.16. Jessie Colin Young - "Desire"Early one summer morning, this legendary singer brought Ira a sample of his new coffee line, gave an incredible live session, and left to perform live at the Boulder coffee house. Was it a dream? You decide.17. Hazel Miller and the Caucasians - "Shine the Light"We had tried for years to get Denver's hottest voice for a local session, and we finally did! Lois Todd crowned her the "love sponge" as she soaked us all in for her debut performance. We are proud to say that this CD is the only release to date with Hazel's powerful music. Enjoy, we did!
