Seems to be a quality piece of equipment

I purchased this motor to drive a glass-working apparatus that I'm building. I need a low, variable speed motor with more torque than hobby gear motors provide. While not rated for low speed operation, this motor turns at voltages approaching zero.Contrary to the product image currently associated with this item, there is no bulky conduit box attached to the motor housing. The conduit box is an option available on variants of this motor. According to the manufacturer's catalog, the features of this motor include linear speed/torque characteristics, dynamic braking capability, reversible operation from a simple two lead connection, ball bearings, and replaceable brushes.Detailed electrical and mounting specifications are available from Leeson's website. The motor is rated for continuous operation, 12-24 volt, 1750-4200 RPM, .05 to .1 horsepower. The rated 28 oz-in torque is reportedly at 1807 rpm, 12V, 4.7A. Shaft diameter is 5/16" with a flat ground along the length of the shaft. I've had trouble finding a 5/16" arbor for this motor at local hardware stores. You may have to fabricate or special order one if you don't already have what you need.At one point, I thought I found published speed-torque curves for this motor, but I can't seem to locate them now. I also thought I read that the bearings on this motor are only rated for horizontal shaft orientation. However, I cannot confirm these last two details, so maybe I imagined it; or am confused with some other motor.This motor is advertised for pure DC operation. For intermittent shop or laboratory use, a bench top DC power supply, such as those available from BK Precision, is an option. If you want to drive your motor with pulsed DC, or rectified-but-not-filtered AC, Leeson offers other models of motor more suitable than this.
