Product Description

This coastal tug built in 1900 not only burned coal for power but also but also hauled barges filled with coal along the New England coast. The Lackawanna was 137 feet long but her gorgeous sheer and festive air made her appear almost yacht like. Our 33 inch model of the Lackawanna captures all the beautiful lines of this classic tug. This kit features a vacuum ABS plastic hull and expanded PVC diecut parts. The Lackawanna is not short on detail with tons of laser cut parts and loads of castings and turnings. Top it off with clear and concise step by step plans and instructions and you have a great kit of an Early 20th Century Tug that is truly a pleasure to build. Length 33 inches Beam 6 inches

5Old Boats Never Die...
By Aimless Aviator
This thing is awesome. Delivery was, as is Amazon's (unspoken) policy, sooner than anticipated. I decided to try a ship after crashing my model seaplane one too many times. I'm glad I picked this one. The boat, at 33", is IM-pressive. I am starting it from the top down, superdetailing the wheelhouse with wood paneling, brass fittings, and a micro TV camera mounted to look ahead thru the front window. Instructions are well written, all parts are top quality. The formed styrene hull comes in two pieces which must be glued together, that would appear to be the most challenging step. It feels a teeny bit flimsy, but I think it'll firm up a lot once it's assembled with all the interior bracing, etc. I may invest in a little battery-powered bilge pump 'just in case'. (I learned a lot from the seaplane. It turned into the world's fastest submarine!) I got the Dumas running gear, there are several options out there for motor, speed control, and battery, I have not researched that fully. Anyway, I am looking at a winter project here. BTW, there is a pictorial essay online at [...] with TONS of good building tips. Well worth viewing. Also, this is NOT a kid toy. This is a serious scale model ship. There are plenty of superfast speedboats out there, this isn't one of them. Visualize an (very) old tug puttering along, "Bucketabolts, Bucketabolts, Bucketabolts" - it's a lifestyle thing. You want fassst and durable - this isn't for you.
