Taylor's Grand Auditorium Shape The Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. It was unveiled to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary in 1994, and since then it has more than lived up to its promise. Although the GA has the width and depth of a Dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitars tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and also enables it to rest comfortably in the lap. Because Taylor removed mass from the width of the GAs braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone. The GA is designed to be a strong fingerpicking guitar that also can handle medium strumming, and is exceptionally versatile.

A Venetian cutaway in the 614ce Grand Auditorium body allows better access to the upper frets. In the past, many players moving to acoustic guitars grew accustomed to the cutaways on their electric guitars, while others simply like the freedom of movement into the upper register that a cutaway allows. Now, cutaways are favored as much for their decorative appeal as for their function.

Solid sitka spruce top is joined with big leaf maple sides and back for a crisp, bright tone able to hold its own in live performances.

5The best of the best
By EquinoxV
I own two Taylor guitars and would buy another if I can ever convince my wife :-) The 614CE is simply one of the best acoustic guitars you can buy. The maple sides and back are stunningly beautiful, and the fret inlays are gorgeous. The feel is outstanding and characteristically Taylor, but the sound is what sets the 614 in particular apart. It is extremely full, bright, and full of presence. I would recommend this guitar to anyone, and yes, it is worth the price.

5fantastic ,unbelievable, you will love this guitar!

I purchased this guitar from a local retailer. I sat down and played EVERY high end acoustic guitar in the store, and quite a few lower models. This guitar is absolutely hands down the winner! The neck plays like a dream, set up perfectly at the factory. The action was set kind of low, but there was zero fret buzz! The sound that came out of this thing blew me away, a beautiful combination of high end and low end with a projection that made every note absolutely clear and concise. This guitar has enough natural volume that it could be mistaken for being plugged in when it is not! Whether you play finger style or pick style you will fall in love with this guitar. The only other guitar that compares in sound with this one is a high end Martin, but that is where it ends, the Martins are borderline unplayable compared to the Taylor. If you ever played a Martin you know what I am talking about, beautiful sound, play like crap. This Taylor rules the roost. Plug in to your amp with this and you get a super clear sounding angels from heaven sound.I have owned many acoustics over the last twenty five years, Gibson, Fender, Takamine, Seagull, Ovation. All those guitars always left me chasing a sound I could not find. I have had this Taylor for almost two years now, and I have nothing bad to say about this guitar. Go play one yourself, and compare. I guarantee you will agree.

5This guitar leaves me speechless
By Working Stiff
What can you say about a guitar that's so flawless, it begs to be taken out of the case and played every time you walk past it? Maybe this: thanks to the mind-blowingly gorgeous big-leaf maple back and sides, plus the sitka spruce top, the tones it produces will send shivers down your spine. Or this: Taylor's legendary NT neck is the easiest playing neck you'll find on a guitar. It's also the most maintenance-free. Or this: the Expressions System electronics are the simplest to use and most faithfully accurate you'll find on a guitar these days. Or this: the incredible abalone fretboard inlays and rosette around the soundhole will likely have you thinking you bought a much more expensive guitar.I stopped playing the guitar for 35 years. When I wanted to get back into it, I went on [...] and spent some time in their forum reading posts from owners of various guitar brands. Sure, there were plenty of Gibson and Martin fans. But their numbers were dwarfed by zealots of a brand I'd never heard of: Taylor. And these people were absolutely rhapsodic about the virtues of their guitars. So I went to my local guitar emporium and tested out a number of Taylors. First, I had to decide which size guitar I wanted, since sizes and shapes had changed in the 35 years since I stopped playing. I tested the Grand Concert size (too small) and the Drednaught size (too big), and decided the Grand Auditorium size was perfect for me. Next, I went looking for a specific sound, and the Taylor 614ce, with it's shimmering highs and bell-like lows felt perfect. Finally, the aesthetics: for what I paid, the 614 was simply the most beautiful guitar in my price range. And it came with a case that appears to have been built to withstand a rocket-propelled grenade.I love this guitar, and as much as I've tried in this review, I can't do it justice. Play one for yourself. You'll see what I mean.
