Excellent mid-weight jacket

My mother is always complaining that her least favorite part of winter is having to wear a heavy coat, especially when getting in and out of the car while shopping. I bought her this jacket for xmas and it quickly became her favorite jacket. Very light-weight and flexible yet with its wind/rain resistant fabric and a slight amount of (fuzzy) insulation on the inside it's perfect for shopping or for that casual everyday jacket. She lives in Ohio and wears this jacket all winter long.This is really great technology. The outer fabric completely blocks wind and rain, which in my opinion is the primary goal of a jacket. The fabric is also very quiet, none of those "zipping" or loud sounds when your arms rub the sides but more of a soft sound like cotton fabric rubbing together.I bought the previous version of this jacket for my wife in 2009. She absolutely loves it! This is simply an evolution of a "softshell" jacket, which is what our whole family wears throughout much of the fall and winter. We live in Kansas and these jackets are perfect for cutting through the wind and for repelling both snow and rain. They're perfect for being active as they're snug (doesn't get in the way) but are flexible and allow you to move without much resistance.The feature that my wife loves the most is the integrated hood. Great for when it's pouring down rain or to keep the cold wind off of your head. Besides the fact that the jacket looks great!These jackets are tapered or cut slim in the midsection. If you like your jackets snug then order the normal size, otherwise order the next size up. Keep in mind that these jackets are flexible (somewhat like an ace bandage) and meant to allow full range of movement.Overall: Great mid-weight jacket. Perfect for being active outdoors in late fall or in moderate winter weather (40° F. to 10° F.). Perfect for wind/rain resistance. Ordered from Amazon, arrived quickly as usual.

Runs small

I advise sizing up - I'm sending mine back for being too tight - no way I can wear layers underneath. Otherwise a great jacket. The fuzzy lining is lovely, and I also liked the button on the hood.

Fit very oddly

I was initially very excited to find this jacket-- something a bit longer in length, made by Marmot, in a softshell, in brown. Unfortunately, when the jacket arrived, I was very disappointed. It was too tight around my hips and in my shoulders, and a bit bunchy in the midsection. Given the bizarre proportions, I can't imagine this jacket being fitted and comfortable on anyone. I'd also hoped the fleece inside would be warm and cozy, but it felt pretty thin and less silky than what I found in a comparable North Face jacket. In the end, I returned this coat.
